While Chance the Rapper was serving as grand marshal of this year's Bud Billiken parade, he announced another freebie gesture to go along with the school supplies he delivered to parade-goers through his charity organization: a surprise concert, featuring Jeremih, Future and others. It also included a videotaped congrats from former president and fellow South Sider Barack Obama.

"I felt obliged to say congratulations to you for being the Grand Marshal of Bud Billiken," said Obama. "I did it once and I ended up being President, so you never know what might happen."

He went on to salute the annual Bud Billiken tradition, which is celebrated as one of the largest and oldest African-American parades in the country. Obama said:

"I wanted to just have the chance to say to all of you that the Bud Billiken parade stands for so much that our community is about. We want to make sure our kids are safe. We want to make sure that they are ready for going back to school. We want to make sure that we are nurturing and attentive and encouraging and loving the next generation of leaders all around the city of Chicago."

The former president added that'd he'd be back in Chicago more often in the near future, thanks to the Obama Foundation.
