A 56-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a car on Monday night in East Garfield Park.

The cyclist, identified as Louis Smith by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office, was riding north in 100 block of N. Homan Ave. at around 8:35 p.m. on Monday. Smith was struck by a Chrysler 200 that was driving north on Homan after the bike "swerved into the vehicle," police said.

Smith was taken to Mt. Sinai, where he was pronounced dead, according to police. No other injuries were reported. The Major Accidents Unit of the Chicago Police Department is investigating.

No citations had been issued as of Tuesday morning.

The victim is the second person to be fatally struck while biking this year. Jezniah Smith was struck and killed in Humboldt Park on Jan. 11. Six cyclists were killed in crashes in Chicago last year.
