One of the most depressing CTA cuts for North Side residents over the past few years was the demise of the #11 bus which ran down Lincoln Avenue. Since its disappearance, community groups, aldermen and business owners have been calling for its return, and the CTA finally listened. Last month, the #11 came back for a six month trial period. If it gets enough riders, it stays. That's where the beer comes in.

Active Transit and the Lakeview, Lincoln Square, Northcenter and Lincoln Park Chambers of Commerce have organized a "Beer Explorer" event that runs throughout the month of August. Eleven different bars and stores, all on Lincoln Avenue (and therefore accessible by the bus, get it?) are participating.

Drinkers can download a passport, and get a stamp at each participating bar. If a guest gets five stamps, they'll be entered to win a prize. Prizes range from a dinner at Half Acre taproom to a Chicago Brewery Map Poster from Beermiscuous. The complete list of prizes is here, and you can download the passport here.

The participating bars include:

Burnt City Brewing, 2747 N. Lincoln Ave.
Delilah’s, 2771 N. Lincoln Ave.
Beermiscuous, 2812 N. Lincoln Ave.
The Green Lady, 3328 N. Lincoln Ave.
Bitter Pops, 3345 N. Lincoln Ave.
Bottles and Cans, 4109 N. Lincoln Ave.
ROCKS Northcenter, 4138 N. Lincoln Ave.
Half Acre Beer Company, 4257 N. Lincoln Ave.
Gideon Welles, 4500 N. Lincoln Ave.
The Grafton Pub, 4530 N. Lincoln Ave.
MASH Craft Kitchen + Patio, 4535 N. Lincoln Ave.

Conveniently for drinkers, these include some of the best breweries (Half Acre), beer shops (Bottles and Cans) and beer bars (Beermiscuous) in the entire city, so it's not exactly a sacrifice to drink there. Make sure to take the bus to the bars, and help save an important transit link in the most delicious way possible.
