NBC 5 morning co-anchor Stefan Holt will soon be working in the same building as his dad Lester Holt, the anchor of the NBC Nightly News.

Robert Feder reports that Holt will be leaving Chicago with two years left on his contract, but that the local NBC affiliate didn't want to stand in the way of such a huge career opportunity. His last day on the air in Chicago will be March 25.

Holt joined NBC 5 in June 2011 as a reporter and weekend morning anchor, swiftly rising to become the weekday morning co-anchor in March 2012.

We've long been fans of Holt's presence on the NBC 5 morning show. He has the rare combination of both a quick wit, and a proper sense of gravitas. His chemistry with his fellow team members Zoraida Sambolin, Andy Avalos and Kye Martin works to create a newscast that feels more like an ongoing discussion between friends. We can see why New York would have an eye on Holt for a more prominent national role within the news division.

Holt begins his new job in April as co-anchor of a new 4 p.m. weekday newscast. Maybe he took the job not just for the career opportunity, but as a chance to finally be able to sleep in every once in a while?
