ALA's David Bowie READ poster.

The Chicago-based American Library Association's long running READ campaign features celebrities to help convince kids reading is cool. (Kids, reading is cool.)

Bill Gates, Stephen Hawking, Orlando Bloom, Julia Stiles—and many more—have leant their image to posters in libraries across the U.S. But we would argue that no one cooler has participated in the campaign than David Bowie, who made his own appearance in 1987.

According to the American Library Association's website, "An avid reader, David Bowie was one of the first celebrities to pose for the READ campaign." Judging by this list of Bowie's 100 favorite books, he was also a reader with excellent taste.

I certainly remember the image of Bowie leaping excitedly with a book on the wall of my own library when I was a teenager. And now I can also have my own copy of it, and you can too! The ALA just announced they're releasing a limited run of 22" x 34" posters. to ship next month. So don't let the prompt telling you these beauties are already on backorder lead you to believe they're already out of stock.

Order yours now, and you can leap for joy alongside Bowie as you read a book.
