North Siders have a new, peaceful respite in the woodsy West Ridge Nature Preserve.
This Sunday the new preserve was bustling when Mayor Rahm cut the ribbon in a ceremony to open the 20.6 acre park and nature trail. But it looked pretty quiet when Chicagoist swung by Monday afternoon. There were a few people enjoy the waning afternoon light with their dogs, bikes and children. The park was restored with the help of a federal grant and it was carved out of an unused section of Rosehill Cemetery (but don't worry, it's never been used for burials).
Chicagoans have plenty of new ways to enjoy the outdoors with the opening of the 606 trail and Northerly Island Park.
