Sunday Pig Roast At The Duck Inn Will Benefit Urban Farming

Enjoy an elegant pig roast for a good cause this Sunday.The Duck Inn (2701 S. Eleanor St.) and Krug Champagne are hosting the Krug Rustic Elegance Pig Roast to benefit Growing Power, a local urban farm.

Known for their urban farms, Growing Power is a national nonprofit organization and land trust that works to provide equal access to healthy, high-quality, safe and affordable food for people in various communities. Growing Power provides hands-on training, on-the-ground demonstration, outreach and technical assistance to people, all with the mission of making communities more sustainable. The benefit pig roast will take place Sunday, Aug. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m.

John Williamson, The Duck Inn's general manager, tells us that they are committed to Growing Power Inc. because “The Duck Inn purchases some of its produce from Growing Power at the Farmer’s Market and offers guests the opportunity to make a $10 donation to support the organization. We are both located in the Bridgeport neighborhood as well.”

For a $150 donation, a portion of which is tax deductible, guests will receive:

A glass of Krug Grande Cuvee and a glass of Krug Brut Rose while dining on a menu of:

Heirloom tomato & barrel aged feta salad garden oregano & pickled onions Roasted eggplant & watermelon salad red curry vinaigrette | black sesame Tammsworth pure bred heritage suckling pig green garlic chimichurri | calabrian chili romesco Duckfat potato lyonnaisse salad bacon lardon | crumbled duck egg | frisee Epi baguettes & brioche rolls

For a $400 donation guests are invited to a VIP reception and private tasting of vintage ’98, ’00 and ’03 Krug with Brand Ambassador Garth Hodgdon. During the VIP reception, hors d'oeuvres of Foie Gras Mousse Blackberry Jam on Housemade English Muffins, Little Truffle Grill Cheese and Caviar Baked Potatoes will be served.

All attendees will have the option to purchase additional glasses of Krug Grand Cuvee for $30 as well as a selection of wines from Moet Hennessey.
