One alderman who says the partying in his ward has gotten out of control is proposing a motion to ban loud music after 8 p.m. in Chicago.

Raymond Lopez, a freshman alderman on the Southwest Side, wants the party rocking to stop at 8 p.m. instead of 10 p.m., according to the Chicago Tribune. His plan calls for $500 fines for noise violators between 8 and 10 p.m. The fines would go up as the night goes on: $1,000 up until midnight and then $2,000 for violations after midnight until 8 a.m.

Lopez, who reps Back of the Yards, West Englewood, Brighton Park and Gage Park, says he's been getting a lot of complaints about noise pollution and round-the-clock parties in the 15th ward. He also believes that this ordinance would allow police to crack down on noise violators earlier in the night and deal with more serious crime later.

The current noise ordinance bans any music or noise louder than the "average conversational level at a distance of 100 feet or more from the property line of the property from which the noise is being generated."

Lopez says Mayor Rahm Emanuel is aware of the proposal but he's not sure if the mayor supports the change.
