Chicagoist Weekend Theater: The Chicago Blackhawks Vs. Sesame Street

By Jim Bochnowski in News on Jun 27, 2015 7:00PM

It's Pride Parade this weekend and gay marriage is legal across the land, so why not watch America's favorite gay couple, Bert and Ernie, play hockey against the Blackhawks? Especially since a few Hawks will be bringing the Cup to the parade to celebrate a double victory of their championship and that of marriage equality!

The video, spotted by the A.V. Club, is courtesy of the Chicago Film Archives' who speculates it was part of a long-forgotten Sesame Street promo. Watch as Big Bird checks a Blackhawk into the boards and as a terrifying, googly-eyed Cookie Monster guards the net and wait for Grover to score a goal on Chicago legend Tony Esposito.

It's a weird video but also proof of a tremendous missed opportunity that we don't have footage of other legendary Chicago teams facing off against beloved children's characters. Why didn't the '85 Chicago Bears ever play a football game against the Transformers? Or why didn't Michael Jordan and the Bulls ever think to play a pickup basketball game against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? (Editor's Note: Space Jam was just not enough!)
