Superdawg Teams Up With Lake Effect Brewing To Make A Super Beer

We've long been fans of Superdawg, the iconic Chicago hot "dawg" spot topped with the adorable Maurie and Flaurie on the Northwest side. Superdawg churns out delightful retro boxes nestled with Superfries next to Superdawgs or Whoopercheesies all served up with a delicious classic Supershake (strawberry is our favorite) on the side. It's a classic Chicago treat to drive up and balance a box on your steering wheel while eating with your windows down on a nice summer evening. Now Superdawg is deciding to branch out and put their "Super" seal of approval on another classic-beer.
The new Super Bier is a collaboration with local outfit Lake Effect Brewing Company to make a beer that pairs perfectly with Superdawgs and other encased meat delights. What they ended up with is a Kolsch-style beer. Lake Effect's founder and head brewer, Clint Bautz, told the Sun-Times the beer is "crisp and slightly sweet with a little bit of smoke and a hint of spice on the back end." He also disclosed that the spice is a result of the beer's "secret ingredient."
Kolsch-style beers are refreshing and usually a bit lighter so it makes perfect sense as the best beer to pair with a hot dog or sausage of any caliber. They usually are an easy sipper and do not register a high ABV (Super Bier is 5.2 percent ABV), which means you can enjoy a few rounds of dogs and beers in the summer sun without feeling like you need a nap.
Currently the beer is set to be sold at liquor stores near Superdawg and Lake Effect after its debut this Thursday just down the street from Superdawg at The Garage (6154 N Milwaukee Ave), which includes samples of both Super Bier and Superdawg. It will eventually be available at more stores throughout the city where Lake Effect's beer is available. Obviously Superdawg can't sell the beer themselves given their current setup, but we don't see anything wrong with finding a location to purchase some nearby after grabbing your Superdawg order to go and pairing them at home on your back porch. Sounds like the perfect Chicago summer meal.
