Dating In Chicago Will Cost You, If You Let It

A cheap date may not be so inexpensive, even if it includes a trip to the Golden Arches. That’s according to Deutsche Bank, whose “Cheap Date Index” compared the cost of a burger-and-movie date in 32 cities across the globe. When Deutsche Bank says “burger” they specifically mean “McDonald’s.”
The price of a couple McDonald’s burgers and soft drinks gives Deutsche Bank’s index a common baseline. They then look at the average price of a cab ride, movie tickets and beers in all the cities they observed and compared the average price of a date relative to the average price of a date in New York City—around $93.
Chicago ranked among the middle of the pack, with an average of $80, good for 15th on the index and 86 percent of the cost of a date in New York. To which we say if you go into a date already knowing you’re going to spend $80, buy a good burger. Or some tacos. Or a good pizza. And a subscription to HowAboutWe. In some of these cases you actually may lower the price of your night out and impress your date at the same time.
The most expensive city on the planet to have a date, according to Deutsche Bank, was London with an average of $121, followed by Wellington, New Zealand; Edinburgh; Berlin; and Sydney. The city with the cheapest average tab for a date was Mumbai, at $23. Read the full list here.
