Author Adrian Miller describes his book Soul Food: The Surprising Story of an American Cuisine, One Plate at a Time as "a love letter to African American cooks." Denver-based Miller visited 150 soul food restaurants in 35 cities including Chicago, a destination for blacks migrating from the South during the Great Migration of the 20th century.

Miller will discuss his book and the staples of soul food cuisine, how they became iconic and what they mean to African American culture in a discussion at Kendall College Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. until noon.

The discussion is sponsored by the Culinary Historians of Chicago and admission is $5, $3 for students. To RSVP, email Culinary.Historians@gmail.com. (900 N. Branch St.)
