Is Chicago the city with the most heartbreak or is it the most romantic city in America? Can’t it be both?

Hot on the heels of a recent “study” by Credit Donkey comes another from Priceline.com listing the most romantic cities on Valentines Day with Chicago atop the list. The travel deal website took time away from filming those cheesy commercials with William Shatner and Kaley Cuoco to compile post-hotel stay surveys by its hotel guests and “looked for those cities that were cited most frequently for their romantic charm.” The downtown skyline hides a lot of warts, doesn’t it?

Three Chicago hotels, led by the Hyatt Regency Chicago, placed on Priceline’s list of the 20 most romantic hotels. That's the kind of marketing Choose Chicago, the city's tourism arm, can't buy no matter how much money they spend. (We also call foul on that hotels list; the Pink Palace Fantasy Suites on Archer Avenue should have made the cut but obviously they aren’t on Priceline’s listings.)

Priceline conducted a separate telephone survey that found 38 percent of Midwesterners were ready to turn off the television on Valentines Day and “turn on their significant other.” That survey found two out of every five Americans believed they were more likely to get some if they spent Valentines Day in a hotel room. The survey also found 64 percent of respondents were more likely to watch television tonight than get frisky. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. A good movie on Netflix can lead to some unexpected endings.
