Jared Van Camp Set To Open New Boutique Juice Bar

2014_1_8OwnAlchemy.jpg One of the most popular corporate job pastimes, the juice cleanse, will soon have a new player in the game this spring. Chef Jared Van Camp is branching out and bringing some of that Nellcote trendy glamour to the juice bar world. He, his partners at Element Collective and Anne Owen, former publisher of Modern Luxury Miami and Modern Luxury Brides, are collaborating on Owen & Alchemy, their new health focused food and juice boutique.

The location will either be in Logan Square or the Wicker Park/Bucktown area according to Crain’s and will open in early spring. The juices will be served in glass (plastic is so passe) and including rotating flavors like Ruby Ginger (beet, carrot, ginger, local berries, plum, flax seed oil and rosemary) and green mixes like Emerald Water (zucchini, celery, green leaf lettuces, spinach, watercress, lemon and dill). The menu will also feature seasonal cold-pressed juices, fruit smoothies, nut milk on tap (nut milk uses a tap system?) and a variety of vegetarian friendly fare. Van Camp will use his relationship with local farms to source many of the ingredients as well. Also, according to Crain’s, the price tag for the fresh juices will be $9, which apparently is on par for the juice market. They will also offer an option for the ever popular juice cleanse which will include curbside pickup or corporate delivery. So now the whole office can cleanse together at the same time, assuring high morale, at least for those that stick with it.

We’re a fan of home juicing ourselves and do just fine with our handy Breville. And although many former co-workers we know swear by juice cleanses, we personally enjoy juicing only as a healthy alternative to the occasional meal. That said, we still look forward to checking out the surely interesting flavor combinations Van Camp will come up with. But we’d be lying if we said this was our most anticipated new opening from Van Camp and his friends. That honor goes to Leghorn. Sorry folks, fried chicken trumps juice in the battle for our wallet any day.
