Shay, a popular bartender at Jerry's Andersonville, recently underwent surgery to remove black mass pushing on his brain that was discovered after he had an MRI find the source of a series of painful migraines. Shay does have health insurance but the out-of-pocket expenses will amount to tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills.

Jerry's is hosting a benefit to help pay for Shay's medical expenses 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, called "Black Mass" as a nod to the blip on Shay's MRI and to his fondness of some pretty dark metal. Jerry's will screen occult-themed movies, a little dark metal for your ears, and some pretty dark metal beers to tie it all together.

Black Mass tap list:
-Founders Imperial Stout
-Jolly Pumpkin Madrugada Obscura
-Revolution Coffee Eugene
-Ballast Point Victory at Sea
-Goose Island Baudoinia
-North Coast Barrel-Aged XV Old Rasputin
-Specially donated keg of Atlas/Begyle IT’S A TRAP!!! Black Abbey Ale

All the bar profits and tips collected for the evening will go directly to Shay. (5419 N. Clark St.)
