Chicago Police say the Michigan Avenue shopping district is relatively safe despite a the Guardian Angels dubbing the Magnificent Mile the "Muggers' Mile" after a spate of high-profile robberies in the area and the area's penchant for being the center of social media-fueled wildings by youth.

CPD says only three muggings on Boul Mich have been reported in the past 28 days and increased police presence has been a deterrent. But that hasn't stopped the Guardian Angels from lining the streets and passing out fliers referring to popular destination as "Muggers' Mile." The Guardian Angels' awareness campaign comes on the heels of the Emanuel administration's announcement of record tourism numbers in Chicago for the first six months of 2013.

Most of the muggings happening on Michigan Avenue are targeting smartphones, which can be resold or easily traceable, if the robbers decide to use the phones to post selfies to Facebook, Twitter and other social media.
