Pencil This In: Women In Blues Festival At Reggie's; Chicago Film Archives Media Mixer At Hideout

Chicago Film Archives is throwing its second annual media mixer benefit at Hideout tonight at 8 p.m. WBEZ’s Alison Cuddy hosts, Chicago Reader music critic Peter Margasak will spin tunes, Bobby Conn & Monica Boubou close the event. In between CFA will premiere three video collaborations made entirely with footage from CFA, who opened their vaults to three filmmakers and commissioned them to make a short film using any CFA footage they desired. Each filmmaker then handed their piece off to audio artists who scored the freshly made short film. The finished collaborations will premiere at 9:30 p.m. The collaborations include: Cauleen Smith and The Eternals (Sponsorship partner Music Box Films and Music Box Theatre); Jesse McLean and Sich Mang (Sponsorship partner BRMC Group); Alexander Stewart and Sam Prekop (Sponsorship partner Pentimenti Films)
All proceeds benefit Chicago Film Archives and their efforts to identify, preserve and provide access to the Midwest's audio-visual heritage. (1354 W. Wabansia, $15)

The June 7 "Women in Blues" showcase at Reggie's (2105 S. State Street) is shaping up to be one of the better Blues Fest afterfest sets this weekend. As of post time the featured performers include Peaches Staten, Holle Thee Maxwell, Demetria Taylor, Vanessa Davis, Liz Mandeville, Dia Madden, Donna Herula, Ramblin Rose, Tracee Adams, Alex Lund, Ellen Miller, and a special segment by up and coming young blueswoman Stacy Jones from Seattle. The Low-Line Market debuts tonight in Lakeview, occupying the area beneath the El tracks between Lincoln and Southport avenues, near the Southport Brown Line station. The market will feature artisanal products, fresh produce, cooking demos, tasting samples, live music and more. Low-Line Markets will be every Thursday from June 6 through October 17, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
