Eels perform Saturday at the Vic Theatre in support of the band's new album Wonderful, Glorious released earlier this month. Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, is the frontman, serving as singer, songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist and sometimes drummer. Everett is the one constant in an ever-changing lineup that's been pumping out steady, solid, slightly experimental indie rock music since 1996.

Everett spoke with our colleagues at LAist recently about the band's plans for this tour:

We're, as we speak, desperately trying to figure out exactly what it is. We're thinking about trying something new that, to my knowledge, hasn't been done before. You know that thing that the kids are into right now, called mash-ups? We're going to do something unprecedented this year. We want to try mashing up rock and roll, and putting the two together in a big, grand mashup, and see what happens. And it might explode in a horrible way or it might explode in a beautiful way.

Surely it will be a beautiful way, if not a Wonderful, Glorious way.

Eels perform at the Vic Theatre, 3145 N. Sheffield, on Saturday, Feb. 23. Buy tickets here.
