Beer
Victory Brewing founder/owner Bill Covaleski is in town this week. Tonight he'll be at Hopleaf to meet fans of his brewery and hoist a few glasses of NATO IPA, Yakima Glory, Prima PIls, and some Red Thunder along the way. (5148 N. Clark St., 8-10 p.m.)
Film
It's too cold for bicycling for all but the most hale and hearty among us. So don your layers, saddle up and pedal to the Portage Theater Wednesday night, where the Northwest Chicago Film Society will screen Breaking Away. The 1979 film, about a Bloomington, Indiana teen obsessed with cycling races who fakes being Italian to woo an Indiana University student, earned four Academy Award nominations including Best Picture and introduced audiences for the first time to Dennis Quaid, Daniel Stern and the Little 500 bike race. In a case of life imitating art, there is a team called the Cutters who are looking to win their sixth race in seven years. (4050 N. Milwaukee Ave., 7:30 p.m., $5)
