Instead of flirting WITH disaster, as all of us have been known to do at one time or another (some perhaps more frequently than others), how about Flirting FOR Disaster? The local Red Cross Auxiliary Society is throwing a happy hour for young professionals to “mix, mingle and save lives” Dec. 5 at Bar Louie River North from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

From devastating tornadoes like the one in Joplin, Missouri, to the very recent damage done by Hurricane Sandy on the East Coast, the Red Cross is always a familiar symbol on the scene providing disaster relief, but they still need your help. By purchasing a ticket for $20 ($30 at the door), you’ll help support those in need, plus get to chat it up with other like-minded philanthropists. They’ll have drink specials and free appetizers and desserts from West Town Bakery, plus your first glass of wine is on the house thanks to Barefoot Wine & Bubbly. There will also be raffle prizes and music by DJ Pascale. 335 N. Dearborn.
