Trevor de Brauw's New Track Sounds Like Metallica Meets Ravi Shankar

Recently, Trevor de Brauw, guitarist for post-metal group Pelican and self-described power-ambient band Chord, released a new solo song called "They Keep Bowing," which sounds like Ravi Shankar if Ravi Shankar helped write Metallica's "Orion." In fact, we're pretty sure the opening of "Bowing," a three-note figure played on a sepulchral organ, is a direct homage to Metallica's classic Master of Puppets instrumental.

But instead of throwing down thrashing guitars, de Brauw opts for a slower, more steady ambient build. The Shankar comparison comes at roughly the four-minute mark, when a guitar tuning peg is manipulated to make the guitar sound like a sitar. Neat stuff. "They Keep Bowing," a song recorded in 2006, was released as part of the Neon Marshmallow 2012 download compilation, and you can stream or download below.
