LAST MINUTE PLANS: King Louie’s Missing Monuments

By Sarah Cobarrubias in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 9, 2012 10:20PM

2012_11_Missing Monuments.jpg Missing Monuments is the sugary pop outlet for frontman King Louie Bankston, a man of garage punk majesty and of many projects—he’s had his hand in acts such as The Persuaders, The Bad Times, The Royal Pendletons, and The Exploding Hearts.

The band started up in 2009 after a tragic end to The Exploding Hearts—three of the members were killed in a car accident. The Missing Monuments have already put out a handful of releases since coming together, including their debut full-length album Painted White (August 2011, Douchemaster Records) and the 7-inch single “(I’m Gonna) Love You Back to Life” on Chicago’s Hozac Records, both prime examples of the act’s catchy yet rough-around-the-edges pop stylings: lots of loose and jangly hooks and sing-along melodies.

King Louie and the gang are currently on a U.S. tour (which was curtailed due to Hurricane Sandy), and they’re stopping in Chicago tonight for a show at Logan Square’s Crown Tap Room. Also playing will be another member of the Hozac family, Rainbow Gun Show, and Los Ice Creams open. For now, here’s a video of Missing Monuments’ “(I’m Gonna) Love You Back to Life”:

King Louie’s Missing Monuments play tonight at Crown Tap Room, 2821 N Milwaukee Ave, 9 p.m., 21+
