Bears and Beer

Chicago Beer Geeks calls The Garage Bar & Sandwiches "the best kept secret in Chicago." This bar on the Far Northwest side boasts two levels, a beautiful rooftop deck and 120 bottled craft beers, which makes the ideal setting for Chicago Beer Geeks' "Bears Bash" (co-hosted with In the City TV) Sunday, Oct. 7. Baderbrau will be on special all day—the first two rounds on Chicago Beer Geeks—and The Garage has 10 HDTV screens that will be tuned into the Bears-Jaguars game at 3 p.m. (6154 N. Milwaukee Ave., 2 p.m., free but a $15 upgrade grants attendees extra pours and commemorative favors.)

Oktoberfest and Wine

Lynfred Winery's Oktoberfest has become one of our favorite local harvest celebrations. This year's version Oct. 6-7 marks a return of Lynfred's grape stomping and grape spitting contests, and a feast including bratwurst, homemade chili and a pig roast, all paired with plenty of Lynfred's wines. There's also a costume contest where people dressed in lederhosen or dressed as Lucille Ball stomping grapes are eligible for prizes. (15 S. Roselle Rd., Roselle, 3-9 p.m. Oct. 6, Noon-7 p.m. Oct. 7, $3 admission, free for kids 13 and under.)
