Oktoberfest

Gates to St. Alphonsus Oktoberfest open 5 p.m. Sept. 28 at the intersection of Southport, Lincoln and Wellington. The feast of bratwursts and beer runs through 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 7 p.m. Sunday. If you're a fan of street fest bands, this is likely the last opportunity this year to catch your favorite mangling the hits this weekend.

Dine Out For Literacy

Tickets are still available for Reach Out and Read Illinois' benefit dinner 7 p.m. Sept. 27 at Publican Quality Meats. Reach Out and Read works with doctors to promote literacy by prescribing books to young children in an attempt to encourage family reading. Tickets can be purchased here.
