Metro owner Joe Shanahan has purchased nearby bar Gingerman Tavern from its owner Dan Schnitta, assuring the bar will change ownership without changing attitude. “Both Gingerman and Metro have contributed to a Wrigleyville spark that is being drowned out by more modern establishments,” said Schnitta in the release. “Joe understands the revelry necessary to carry on that spirit."
That's a kind way of saying the Gingerman is one of the only tolerable bars in that neck of the woods.
Shanahan said they intend "to keep the same vibe and feel of the bar," and they may work in some plans with Metro and Smart Bar like "new beer and liquor options as well as special events." According to the release:
“Having passed many happy hours in the Gingerman in the last three decades, I am thrilled that everyone’s favorite neighborhood tavern will be preserved, and even more excited to be a part of it,” said Shanahan. “I’m thankful to Dan for his support as he passes the torch!”
Schnitta is leaving to focus on his Gingerman Raceway in South Haven, Mich.
