Doritos Locos Tacos Are Taking Over The World

2012_6_5_DLTaco.jpg When we're wrong, we're wrong, and instead of egg, our faces are covered in artificially flavored orange cheese powder. Despite the resounding ridicule of everyone in the entire food world, the Doritos Locos Taco has made it big—it's the fastest selling product in Taco Bell history. That's not all. Subway is now teaming up with Doritos. Soon, we expect to see Doritos-flavored hamburger buns at McDonald's and Doritos-flavored breading at Red Lobster.

The OC Register reported yesterday that Taco Bell sold 100 million Doritos Locos tacos in about 10 weeks. Taco Bell attempted to give some (sorta fake and self-serving) perspective by pointing out that it took McDonald's 18 years to sell its first 100 million hamburgers. Of course, for a lot of that 18 years, they only had a single location. The Doritos Locos taco has officially become the most popular item on the menu, surpassing the "Crunchwrap," which sounds like something that a personal trainer would insist we do with an exercise ball.

Huffington Post reported yesterday that Subway is also getting in on the Doritos craze. They are testing a Doritos-based nachos dish, using nacho cheese Doritos, a synergy that almost makes our heads explode. Plus, who impulse-buys nachos when they go to get a sub sandwich? Anyway, they are only selling the product in "non-traditional" locations like Walmart. So if you want your cheesy fix, you'll have to go to Taco Bell for now.
