The White Sox took a two-run lead into the eighth inning following a Gordon Beckham two run homer in the seventh, but couldn't hold on. Jake Peavy allowed three runs and seven hits in 7 2/3 innings and Beckham tied the game in the third on an RBI double. Peavy pitched two complete games prior to being pulled toward the end of the eighth after 122 pitches and an RBI single to Miguel Cabrera. Matt Thorton finished the inning strong, but the walk-off two run homer in the ninth by Tigers' shortstop Johnny Peralta, his first of the year, sealed the southsiders fate.

Cubs 5, Dodgers 4

Paul Maholm struggled in April, but is shining in May. He threw six-innings giving up only three hits and one run despite getting nailed in the leg by boomerang ball off of Dee Gordon's bat. He shook it off and finished the inning. Alfonso Soriano rattled off the rust going 3 for 3 with two RBIs helping the Cubs take a 4-1 lead into the seventh. The Dodgers rallied to get back in the game, but Rafael Dolis made his argument for the closer position involuntarily vacated by Carlos Marmol with his second save in three attempts.
