Lamb Shank braised in white wine, fire-roasted green wheat, toasted almonds, fennel salad from Taxim
In lieu of their regular menu, Taxim a five-course holiday meal on Sunday, April 15. The $75 prix-fixe lists traditional Greek Easter dishes such as Kokoretsi (a charcoal-grilled caul-stuffed lamb offal with housemade yogurt and mint); Magiritsa (a hearty lamb offal soup); and charcoal-roasted whole Mint Creek Farm grass-fed lamb with a pilaf of bulgur wheat, kavourma (lamb confit), almonds, roasted tomatoes and fingerling potatoes.
Chef David Schneider will start the meal with Tsoureki, a braided sweet bread baked with a red-dyed egg and hard-boiled red eggs for the traditional egg-cracking contest. Each person chooses what appears to be the strongest egg and then goes egg-to-egg trying to crack his tablemate’s eggs. As legend goes, the person whose eggshell remains crack-free will have good luck for the year.
