APPetizing - The Holiday Sobriety Test App

By Anthony Todd in Food on Dec 20, 2011 8:20PM

Be honest: did you drunkenly embarrass yourself at a holiday party last year? Did you text an old girl/boyfriend, stalk someone on Facebook or dance on a table in front of your boss? If so, you may want to download the Holiday Sobriety Test App. It won't really stop you from doing anything stupid, but maybe it'll remind you to think twice before you put that lampshade on your head.

The app is kind of fun even if you're sober. You spin a wheel that selects which test you will have to perform. The app includes 5 different tests that use the iPhone's touchscreen and motion sensing abilities. One test requires you to keep the phone level while standing on one leg. Others test reaction times, motor skills and vision. We passed, by the way. If you pass, it searches for local bars (based on your location). If you fail, it searches for motels.

Unfortunately, if you don't pass, it's up to you (or your friends) to do something about it - we almost wish that it would take control of phones and prevent people from doing idiotic things, or magnetically remove car keys from pockets. The iPhone can do that, right?

Even though this app is fun, don't count on it too much. The license agreement clearly states, "This software is intended to be used only for entertainment or marketing purposes. The software is not an actual test of sobriety or measure of ability to operate a vehicle and should not be utilized as such under any circumstances." So, spring it on your friends at parties, but don't count on it to get you out of a speeding ticket.

The app is free, and available for Android and iPhone.
