What is it with Indiana residents, alcohol and small vehicles? A Chesterton woman was charged with public intoxication after she was seen swerving in and out of traffic behind the wheel of a golf cart.

Porter County Sheriff's officers found 59-year-old Jacqueline Hamilton leaving a CVS with a scarecrow and a bottle of whiskey, her husband's golf cart in the parking lot. Officers declined to give Hamilton a field sobriety test for fear she might have hurt herself. A Breathalyzer test given to Hamilton registered a .093.

When asked about the scene - and a granny with a golf cart, a scarecrow and a bottle of Canadian Mist is the start of a good party in Northwest Indiana or even Hegewisch - Hamilton said the scarecrow was for her grandchildren and the whiskey for her to drink in front of a fire. (She gets points for honesty with us.)

The golf cart was turned over to Hamilton's husband.
