Girls Rock! Chicago Covers The Cure

Back in 2009, Mike Kinsella (of Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc, Owen) took on the task of organizing a fundraiser for Girls Rock! Chicago. He gathered a handful of musician friends and together they performed a Morrissey cover show, bringing in a healthy sum of money for the non-profit organization. This Thursday, the group will reunite for another GR!C benefit show - except this time they’re taking on The Cure.

Kinsella will be joined on stage by the guys of that original cover show - Bob Nanna (Braid, Hey Mercedes), Joe Trohman (Fall Out Boy), Drew Brown (Weekend Nachos) and Dustin Currier (The Felix Culpa) - with the addition of Mark Rose (Spitalfield). According to the Reader, Nanna will take on the part of The Cure frontman Robert Smith.

Punk rock a capella group Blue Ribbon Glee Club will open the show. All proceeds go to Girls Rock! Chicago, a local non-profit that promotes self-expression and self-esteem through music by offering rock-oriented music camps to ladies ages 8-16. The summer music camp sessions are already over, but check out GR!C’s site for other ways to volunteer or to donate a few bucks.
