What do you get when you gather some very funny and very smart people, put them all in your friendly neighborhood bar and set them loose in front of a microphone? You get Paper Machete, that’s what. It’s a free weekly magazine reading series - self-defined at part spoken-word show, part vaudeville revue - hosted by Christopher Piatt, former Time Out Chicago theater editor and after-dinner speaking/journalism/really-connected-to-cool-people-in-Chicago extraordinaire. He started Paper Machete last January, and the event has since expanded to a podcast and regularly features talent from big names in Chicago talent and journalism, such as iO, The Second City, Chicago Reader, The Onion A.V. Club, and, of, course Chicagoist.

While we highly recommend that you check out Paper Machete every single Saturday you are able, we doubly recommend tomorrow’s event because former former Chicagoist editor-in-chief Margaret Lyons will be making an appearance. Also expect to see Jon Langford playing music, Susan Messing doing improv and lots of other folks showing off their respective talents. Check out a full 'We Dare You To Love" line-up for more details.

Paper Machete is tomorrow, February 12, at Ricochet’s, 4644 N Lincoln, 3 p.m., free
