White Sox Sign Ramirez to New Deal

Looks like Jerry Reinsdorf hasn't asked Kenny Williams for the checkbook back yet. Reports surfaced yesterday that the White Sox and shortstop Alexei Ramirez have agreed on a four-year, $32.5 million contract extension, locking up the Silver Slugger, should-have-been Gold Glove winner and an integral piece of the team's future.

Ramirez led all American League shortstops in batting average (.282), slugging percentage (.431), home runs (18) and total bases (252). He's also exhibited a range at shortstop between Ozzies Guillen and Smith. Ramirez and second baseman Gordon Beckham have the potential to become one of the great modern-day double play combos and give the White Sox strength in the middle of their infield.
