By Chuck Sudo in News on Nov 14, 2010 3:00PM

Busy day for sports locally. Let's recap what happened.

Basketball

Bulls 103, Wizards 96: Derrick Rose got the best of his heralded matchup with Wizards rookie point guard John Wall, scoring 24 points and dishing out 8 assists as the Bulls take a 5-3 record out West for the annual "circus trip." Joakim Noah added 21 and Luol Deng 20 to pace the Bulls. Wizards guard Gilbert Arena led all scorers with 30, while Wall added 16 and Kirk Hinrich scored 8 in his return to the United Center since he was traded to Washington in the offseason.

Hockey

Predators 4, Blackhawks 3 (OT): The Hawks' woes have now extended to the road, despite forcing a shootout and two goals from Jack Skille. Cal O'Reilly's goal in the shootout provided the difference for Nashville.

College Football

Northwestern 21, Iowa 17: Wildcats quarterback Dan Persa 20-yard touchdown pass to Demetrius Fields with 1:22 to play gave Northwestern is fifth win over the Hawkeyes in six games. But the win was bittersweet, as Persa ruptured his Achilles tendon running to celebrate the touchdown with his teammates. Persa finished with 318 yards passing.

Minnesota 38, Illinois 34: The Fighting Illini wasted a golden opportunity to put themselves firmly into talk of a lower-tier bowl invitation by losing a see-saw battle with the Golden Gophers in Champaign. DeLeon Eskridge's 2-yard TD run with 16 seconds left in the game provided the difference in the upset victory. Illinois was led by Mikel LeShoure's 141 yards rushing and two TDs on 18 carries.

Notre Dame 28, Utah 3: The Fighting Irish played the spoiler role to perfection, handing Utah its second straight loss. Notre Dame relied on power to take the pressure off freshman QB Tommy Rees. Not that Rees felt any pressure; he finished with 3 TD passes and 129 yards passing.
