VIDEO: Boystown Halloween Parade

We were fortunate enough to have front row seats for the inaugural Boystown neighborhood's Northalsted Halloween Parade in 1997, when we were working at a restaurant in the space that now houses the Halsted Bar + Grill. Many didn't know what to expect, as at the time it seemed like a loosely organized affair. But that didn't stop marchers from bringing their A game, with elaborate costumes that looked as if they took months to put together. It's since grown into a large scale event, attended by old, young, gay and straight alike.

This year's theme is "Little Street of Horrors" and will be emceed by Chicago's very own Miss Foozie, and the parade will include floats this year for the first time. The Northalsted Halloween Parade 2010 kicks off tonight at 6:00 p.m. from Belmont and Halsted. Never been before? Check out this video from last year's parade to see some of what you've been missing:
