Samuel has that clear-eyed sould that comes across as absolutely innocent and charming on "I Heart NY," the title track off his recent EP. It's a love song to the city that spawned him, but unlike his neighbors creating spiky dance music in Brooklyn or laying models in Manhattan he opts to ferry his musings within old school soul horns, tinkling xylophones and beat halfway between a hip a hop and a shuffle. It's just the sort of optimistic cheer laced with pragmatism we could use in a week where we've seen storms tear at our own city while earthquake tug at our bedrock. Take us to that happy place, Samuel.
