Cubs Cleat Cards
A day after being knocked around by the Cardinals, the Cubs rode a dominating performance by pitcher Carlos Silva to a 5-0 win over the Cards. Silva, now 7-0 on the year, struck out 11 over seven shutout innings of work to earn the win and pace the Cubs. Marlon Byrd, Mike Fontenot, and Starlin Castro all had RBI in the fourth inning; Kosuke Fukudome had two RBI without a hit, walking in the sixth with the bases loaded and knocking in a run with a sac fly in the eighth. It was more than enough offense given Silva's fantastic start. It's the best start to a season for a Cubs pitcher in 43 years (Ken Holtzman started out 9-0 in 1967). The Cubs hope to ride the momentum into the rubber game of the series later this afternoon (1:20 p.m., CSN).

Rays Light Up Danks
The Sox mounted a small rally but weren't able to overcome an early deficit as they fell to Tampa Bay 8-5. Starting pitcher John Danks was tagged by the Rays for eight runs over in 4+ innings and dropping to 4-4 on the season. A two-run homer from Carlos Quentin gave the Sox a brief 2-1 lead early but the Rays ran rampant over Danks. Alexi Ramirez hit a solo homer in the seventh and the Sox added two more in the eighth, but the rally still fell well short. The Sox will do their best to earn a split in the series this afternoon (12:40 p.m., WGN).
