Six Figure Settlement For '06 Derailment

Yesterday, while the CTA was sorting out what happened with the Green Line this weekend, a jury awarded $135,000 to one of the injured victims in the 2006 Blue Line derailment. Eddie Martinez was awarded the money as he claimed he suffered from Post Traumatic Stress disorder after the derailment. His attorney, Jeff Kroll, said, "They understood and appreciated today not only what he's gone through, but what he's going to go through for the next four to six years of his life. He has anxiety. He is reliving this." 152 people were injured in the July 11, 2006 derailment and while several lawsuits have been settled out of court, this is the first settlement to be awarded via a verdict.
