McMahon Still Waiting for White House Invite

It's been nearly 25 year since the Bears won Super Bowl XX -- doesn't that make us feel old! -- but the Bears team that brought home the Lombardi Trophy has never received their customary visit to the White House. Back in 1986, the Challenger Space Shuttle tragedy resulted in their visit being postponed, and it was never rescheduled.

With the Silver Anniversary of their Super Bowl title, Bears former QB Jim McMahon made it known that he wouldn't mind an invite to hang with Barack in the White House to commemorate the event.

Obama is an Illinois guy. He knows the situation and what happened with us with the shuttle blowing up and everything. That was the right thing to do. The focus should have been on that, but eventually we should have showed up there. I think we are the only [Super Bowl championship] team that hasn't gone.

Never mind that Obama didn't arrive in Chicago until more than five years after Super Bowl XX, his time in town means he clearly understands the place in all our hearts for that team and it's amazing season. And if he wants to return to his adopted town upon exiting the White House, he'd be well advised to have the Punky QB, the Fridge and Ditka over to play a little touch football on the South Lawn. It's just too bad Sweetness won't be able to attend.
