In another outbreak of violence, at least 15 people were injured in a spate of shootings overnight. The most violent of those happened in East Garfield Park where seven were injured in one shooting. According to a Chicago Breaking News report:

A man ran out of a vacant lot on the south side of Walnut Street just before 10:45 p.m. and began shooting at a crowd of young men gathered on the north side of the street, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Robert Perez. ...

Witnesses told police that after the man finished shooting, he ran back through the vacant lot toward Lake Street and may have escaped in a car, Perez said.

No description of the attacker or the vehicle was available, Perez said.

Of the seven hurt, two were still reported in critical condition this morning while the other five were in either stable or good condition. The Sun-Times has more on the incident, including more specifics on each victim.

In another incident, a group of five men carjacked another man, forced him to drive them to his house where they robbed him, and then drove him to another location where he was beaten and shot, but he escaped with minor injuries.

The assailants drove the man to his home in the 2000 block of West 115th Street, Gaines said. Once there, they stole his television sets, [Police News Affairs Officer Ronald] Gaines said, adding that the initial report on the attack did not specify how many TVs were stolen.

The attackers then drove the man to the 7700 block of South Avalon Avenue, where they beat him, according to the police notification. The man somehow escaped his attackers, but suffered a graze wound to one of his hands as he ran away, police said. There was no indication whether he knew his attackers.
