Cubs May Help Yankees Christen New Stadium

2008_10_yankee_stadium.jpgNext spring, the New York Yankees will take the wraps off their new $1.6 billion stadium and while the Bronx Bombers will host the Cleveland Indians for their official Home Opening Day, the Cubs might actually be the first opponent to take the field in the new park. The Cubs and Yanks are in negotiations to play an exhibition game or two in the "House That Jeter Built" the weekend before MLB's official Opening Day on April 6.

In recent years, the Cubs have closed out their exhibition schedule in Vegas, but playing in the Bronx and experiencing that new locker room smell may be too enticing to pass up. But what will the team's new ownership have to say -- if they've been chosen by then?

We can only imagine more clamoring from Cubs players for a new park after seeing a baseball palace that cost four times what it cost to build Milwaukee's Miller Park. Sure, the fans love the "Friendly Confines," but the players want amenities of other parks, like locker room putting greens, indoor workout areas and enough space to change without coming face to cheek with Aramis Ramirez's ass.
