Movies in Grant Park start July 15, but if you like watching movies outside, there are other options. Tonight, for example, you can see....
  • El Sueño del Paraíso in Mozart Park (2036 N. Avers St.) Part of the International Latino Cultural Center's Cine en el Parque series. Sueño is about Japanese immigrants to Colombia in the 1920s.
  • Hairspray in Lincoln Park ( 2045 Lincoln Park West) Hairspray is fucking adorable if you can tune out how annoying John Travolta is in it.
  • Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at Palmer Park (201 E. 111th St) This Lyons Family Classic (seriously) is bizarrely misogynistic, unbelievably dated, and sort of about Stockholm syndrome. But one of the characters is named Dorcas and there's so much dancing!

But the fun doesn't end today! Tomorrow, there's....

  • Bee Movie in Dunbar Park (300 E. 31st St) It's free? And you could theoretically get stung by a bee while watching it in a park? Bee Movie is not very good.
  • Shrek The Third in Simons Park (1640 N. Drake Ave) It's better than Bee Movie but nowhere near as good as original Shrek.
  • The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep in Armour Square Park (3309 S. Shields Ave) Good lord, how many crummy kids movies can the city show in parks on the same night? Oh. Three? The answer's three? OK.

And Friday night....

  • Grease in Athletic Field Park (3546 W. Addison St.) It's tough to beat Sing Along Grease at the Music Box (tip: bring booze), but seeing the summer classic outside is fun.
  • E.T. the Extraterrestrial in Sauganash Park (5861 N. Kostner Ave.) If it's been a while since you've had QT with Gertie and Eeeeelliot, go grab some Reese's Pieces and remember what cinematic delight feels like.
  • Transformers in Moore Park (5085 W. Adams St.) The movie that made Shia LaBeouf a star. Unless you count Holes. Anyway, stuff blows up.

All the movies start at dusk, which is around 8:30. The whole line-up is here, and we'll be spotlighting our picks throughout the summer.
