--Those cinema detectives over at CCF are at it again. This Saturday they present the Chicago premiere of Honor of the Knights (Quixotic), a free adaptation of Cervantes that was named one of the ten best films of 2007 by Cahiers du Cinema. Richard Serra's film was shot on breathtaking locations in natural light, and is bound to be a feast for the eyes. The screening is at 6pm at Sonotheque (21+ we're afraid), 1444 W. Chicago. $7 gets you inside.
--If cheesy retro horror is more your thing then check out the gooey double feature tonight at the Portage: The Incredible Melting Man b/w The Stuff. The former features an astronaut returning to earth who begins to ... umm, melt; the latter is a would-be satire about a faddish new dessert that actually causes people to ... umm, melt. The show starts at 8. Try to resist the impulse to bring lime green cafeteria jello with whipped topping.
--We want to make sure you know about an encore screening on Tuesday, April 1 of America The Beautiful, the documentary we raved about at the last year's CIFF. It went on to win a Special Jury Prize for director Darryl Roberts at the festival. If Nip/Tuck or ANTM are your things, you'll love it. It's screening as part of the Midwest Independent Film Festival at the Landmark Century, 6pm. Roberts will be present for a Q & A.
--Ain't no shame in being a couch potato. Two local flicks we've written about are now ready for consumption in your own home: Crime Fiction is out on DVD and Musician is being shown occasionally on the basic cable channel Ovation, in preparation for its DVD release in May.
