Music
The Chamber Strings have a turbulent history, but leader Kevin Junior -- having left many of his demons behind him -- is experiencing a joyous resurgence lately. The band's recorded output falls into the dreamy orch-pop category, but the songs really come alive and gain some grit on stage.

Hideout, 1354 W Wabansia, 10 p.m., $10, 21+

Music
Say Hi doesn't really do anything groundbreaking. However leader Eric Elbogen does have a way with crafting melodies that are just simply pretty. The band's latest, The Wishes And The Glitch, comes across as a meticulously crafted bedroom symphony, though we suspect that the live show will probably eschew some of the finer details in favor of energy.

MP3: Say Hi "Northwestern Girls"

Beat Kitchen, 2100 W. Belmont, 7 p.m., all ages, $10

Clubs
Though they seem to sometimes get lost in the clouds of dancefloor dust thrown up by the Dark Wave Disco or life During Wartime crews, The Beta Theta was there first, mixing the indie rock with the dance beats. Tonight resident and co-founder Brock mans the tables after a debut live performance by Parks & Gardens.

darkroom, 2210 W Chicago, 9 p.m., 21+, $5

Shaman / blonde Jesus / remixer to the stars / local boy done good Tommie Sunshine pops into Smart Bar tonight. The boy has come a long way from hosting dance parties in El cars. It should be pretty awesome to see him in the relatively cozy confines of Smart Bar.
