Local Options

It's a Bottle edition of Local Options to reduce, reuse, and recycle this week.

2008_02_piterpat.jpgWednesday, 2/20: Speck Mountain and Box of Baby Birds at Empty Bottle (with Arms and Sleepers), 9:00 p.m., $7
Much buzzed-about Chicago dream-pop trio Speck Mountain are joined by Box of Baby Birds to bring ethereal, experimental folk to the Empty Bottle mid-week for a shoegazey, acoustified romp with Boston's Arms and Sleepers.

Friday, 2/22: Moxie Motive, Horse in the Sea, and Leaf Bird at the Empty Bottle, 10:00 p.m., $8
Moxie Motive has finally found its roots, and they're not as obvious as one might think. Gone is much of the folkie influence, replaced by crunchier, stylized guitars (think Television or moments of high-minded bedroom pop 'n' roll). Horse in the Sea are the boy-girl harmony-heavy pop-folk vehicle of one Joel Janis, and Leaf Bird will open with a set of sleepy, comfortable acoustic-based tunes.

Saturday, 2/22: Pit er Pat at AV-aerie, 9:00 p.m., $8
Chicagoist first caught the gypsie jazz freak-folk of Pit er Pat in the same locale, circa 2005 when it was still the Open End Gallery. The occasion was a bad date, but the result was a fascination with the industrial performance space and the effect those environs have on the humble concert experience. Fresh off the Thrill Jockey 15th anniversary shows at Logan Square and en route to a high-profile SXSW showcase with blog darlings Yeasayer, Pit er Pat seems poised for a big 2008.
