Baby, it's cold outside ... but Chicago's brightest musical talent is on display at a cozy venue near you. Here are some solid bets for this week:

Cameron McGill, The Bon Mots, Tenniscourts at Schubas, 9:00 p.m., $8

Cameron McGill has been a staple on the local scene since moving here from Champaign several years ago, and his unselfconsciousness about shifting styles and band lineups ensures that his freak folk pop orchestration is never stale or boring. Latest offering Hold On Beauty is a challenging, heartbreaking, and breathtaking bit of uncompromising songwriting and studio mastery.

Friday, 2/15:
Pegboy at Reggie's Rock Club, 7:00 p.m., $10

Pegboy are a veritable post-hardcore supergroup, featuring ex-members of Chicago legends Naked Raygun, The Effigies, and Bhopal Stiffs. Always willing to walk the poppy, melodic side of the genre, Pegboy bravely bears the torch of Chicago's 90s-defined punk sound into the 21st century.

Saturday 2/16:
LMNOP at the Hideout, 9:00 p.m., $8

LMNOP jumps on the monthly Life During Wartime dance party this week, bringing their impressive live electro-dance rock to the Hideout's cozy confines. It's so cold, spring is nowhere in sight, but that's all the more reason to move it on the dance floor this weekend.
