Extra, Extra

2008_1_2.snowbike.jpgPolice officially identified the body of Eric Kaminski today, announcing that the remains they uncovered in a Pilsen basement on Saturday belong the Oak Park Lawn man who had been missing since 2004. A tip led police to 2248 W. Coulter St, where cadaver dogs helped locate the body under six feet of concrete and limestone. The cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and police already have a suspect in custody (he was being held on unrelated charges), but motive is still not clear. [Trib, CBS 2, S-T]

We can't tell when the Trib is joking. Or maybe their jokes just aren't funny? Because this "by the numbers" kind of feature is interesting/not a joke (40 percent of babies in Illinois are born into WIC programs?!). But then this matrix[pdf], which is a blatant rip-off of the much better executed New York Magazine version, is a total piece of crap. At least the NYM directed us to this, which was actually a little fun.

Late-night network shows return with new episodes tonight. Mike Huckabee crosses a picket line to appear on Leno, and Bob Saget and Dwayne Perkins do, too, to be on Conan. Hillary Clinton and Robin Williams chat with Letterman, who struck a deal with the WGA and is the only one returning to work with a writing staff.
