A Second Hand Party

Chicago has its fair share of witty literates, all vying to impress you, Dear Reader, with an outpouring of wit, candor, and originality. What with all the 'zines, blogs, and hipster rags about, the mountain of potential reading material is astounding.

Enter THE2NDHAND, an online/print periodical that gets right to the point, featuring blissfully short stories, poems, and clever quips that are both intellectual and entertaining. Their online collections are updated weekly, featuring a collection of young authors (many, but not all, from Chicago). Meanwhile, the print broadsheets are published quarterly and generally contain new work from one featured writer.

Their latest broadsheet, a special all-visual issue containing comics, illustrations, and print art, will be released Saturday, December 29 at The Book Cellar in Lincoln Square. The free party starts at 7 p.m., with readings from Spencer Drew, Lauren Pretnar, Kate Duva, and Todd Dills, as well as an original radio play written by "audio guru" C.T. Ballentine.

As a climax to the evening, the group will present their "Stupidist Manifesto" as a rallying cry to all disenfranchised writers battling mediocrity. Hallelujah and let the revolution begin.

Thanks, Anna!
