2007_05_22_AIBA.JPGChicago continues to bring in events that they hope will help showcase that Chicago is a perfect host city for the 2016 Olympics. Last month we shared with you the U.S. World League Volleyball matches that are coming to Chicago in mid-June.

Chicago will also be hosting the 2007 World Boxing Championships a multi-week event that will begin in Chicago on October 17. The event also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Beijing Olympics and will include approximately 600 boxers representing over 100 countries.

Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu an International Olympic Committee member and president of the International Amateur Boxing Association was in town this week to check out the venues at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Dr. Ching-Kuo Wu commented, “We know that Chicago has a great Boxing tradition and we are excited about the opportunity of showcasing our sport in such an important American City. With the help of USA Boxing, AIBA is determined to make this year’s edition one of the most successful World Championships ever.”
