Having stayed up last night to watch the midnight showing of Spider-Man 3 with all the other nerds, we enjoyed ourselves but came away feeling more than a little nostalgic for the good ole days of paper comics.

Lucky for us, many Chicago-area comic book stores are participating in the sixth annual Free Comic Book Day, tomorrow, May 5.

FCBD’s website is full of information if you’re new to comic books or a returning fan. They also list the comic book stores closest to you participating in FCBD. While the only place in the city with a signing tomorrow is The Comic Vault, featuring Jim Terry, Charles Klein, and Matt Kubinski, FCBD has four other listings in Illinois.

Among the free pickings is The Amazing Spiderman: Swing Shift. Also on the comic books/cartoons-as-movies list is the prequel to the Transformers movie (the trailer's left us cold, but we're probably going to go see it anyway).

The weirdest listing? Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance will be unveiling his Umbrella Academy by Darkhorse comics. Although, we did feel that Tobey Maguire might have been channeling some Gerard in S3, so maybe it’s not such a weird romance after all.
